"Sam Pritchard and Windlass Security are now authorized to assist all federal agencies with investigations. For an investigation, they are joined by Eric, a "consultant" who has been incarcerated in a special hospital for genius children who have committed crimes. Eric did some hacking, which caused him to be there. However, his true gifts to the investigation are his incredible reading speed (5,000 wpm) and quick analytical skills. His negatives are that he is a child, ripped from his mother at age 11 and not having seen her since.

Sam and the others see something special in Eric and, since he helps solve their first case in one day, they decide to keep him for the balance of the three days they had to pay for and let him help on some other things. As they get to know and bond with Eric, they discover that North Forest Hospital, where Eric was held, may not be a healthy or happy place for anyone. They keep finding cases so they can keep Eric and start plans in motion to keep him as a permanent part of the team.

NFH does not want one of its "consultants" to be free on the outside. They use all sorts of medical care, minors' information and security claims to try to stop Eric from being permitted to stay with Windlass and to stop Sam and his team at Windlass from investigating them. Things spiral out of control with NFH as Sam and Windlass find ways to help Eric cope with being out of a severely controlled environment while looking for ways to get NFH investigated.

This book starts with a gallop and charges through to a racing pace by the finish. I highly recommend it for other adrenaline-driven story junkies. You'll have a smile on your face the whole way through!"

  • I have read all of these books in the Sam Prichard series and I did not care for this one at all. Indie, was part of the first 19 books and was left out of this book because of pretending to be fighting with her? No Beauregard either! Way way too much detail and this is the first time I found myself skipping pages. Never never thought I would not like a Sam Prichard series book. Sorry David but you had good intentions I guess as readers would hate having people in a hospital ruining kid’s lives for greed and money, but there was too much overkill in detailing everything. I just hope you return to the way the first 19 were written with #21.
  • This book was boring. It was as if it had been written by somebody else. I would prefer to see Sam go back to being a private eye working from home with his wife and some assistance from her mother. Get back to basics with the sam prichard mysteries. Forget about windlass security and the hangers on. Sam is great working for himself. The character has lost his personality. Come on. David. You can do much better than this.
  • “Killer Genius” is Book #20 in the ‘Sam Prichard’ series. This time, Sam and Company bring on a troubled teen who is a genius - Eric - to help uncover a serial murderer.

Eric is a permanent resident at a local hospital that caters to teenage geniuses whose specialized talents are utilized, as Consultants, by various policing agencies during their investigations. In addition to being highly functioning, Eric is also very troubled and subject to bouts of depression and sudden outbursts.

“Killer Genius” shows ‘the human side’ of Sam and his Windlass Investigators. They are gradually able to earn Eric’s trust and, in return, get an invaluable investigator.

A must read for all the ‘Sam Pritchard’ fans.
  • This is unputdownable story. It climaxed a bit too quickly and abruptly ended. Don't know if its intentionally abrupt or a deadline issue but it certainly leaves a chasm wide storyline for more stories to come. Genius young adults, cyber criminals, government sanctioned weapons research and redacted files no one can read but when Sam Pritchard decided to hire one of the interred 'consultants' he gets way more than he bargained or needed. Terrified young adults with no social skills and IQs off the charts. Windows Security suspects more than abuse is at the core of this facility when they find they have a mole.
  • Another strong story by Mr. Archer. Sam and the Windlass team who joined after the tragedy in his life run across a case they just could not solve. Well they called in a special consultant who happened to be a genius. After solving more cases then usual they decide they would like to keep the consultant (Eric) permanently. However, as Eric begins to open up, the gang finds out that something sinister is going on at the Hospital where the consultants come from. Needless to say, the crew get caught up in their egular cases as well as investigate the consultant mystery.
